In the middle of May we realized we had a leak under our house. Our carpet in our living room was wet one night and once Bert started looking into it he realized we had a bigger problem than just that Abby split her drink (which is what I thought at first).
We live on a slab foundation so, once they located the leak, they had to drill through the concrete to fix it. We had a restoration company come out to clear out everything that was wet. They ended up having to remove our kitchen floor, one side of our kitchen cabinets, our living room/dining room floor, hall floor, hall bathroom floor, and the flooring in our small closets, as well as the carpet pad in the girls' bedroom closet. I haven't had a working kitchen in two weeks now (they had to turn off all power to our kitchen except our fridge, so we don't have an oven, stove, microwave or sink) and it is looking like we have a couple weeks longer like this.
We've been waiting on State Farm to get back with us about exactly what they are paying for regarding our cabinets. We hoping to get those repaired over the next couple weeks so that we can get those back in!! The restoration company accidentally broke our (NEW) granite as they were taking it off so that they could move our cabinet out of the way, so now we have to order new granite and have it installed before we get our sink back. After all this kitchen stuff is finished we'll be able to get new flooring installed throughout most of the house.
Here are a few pictures of the craziness.....
We had to have our water totally turned off for a couple days so our insurance company put us up in a hotel for 2 nights. Emily and Hannah were giddy excited about the whole experience. They especially loved the continental breakfast before they headed off to school.
Mimi and Papa kept these two cute things for most of that first week after it happened. It was SO helpful to be able to meet with contractors, insurance people, go to flooring stores, and stay in a hotel without having to worry with the littlest. We sure did miss them though and were SO ready to have them back by the end of that week! :)
It's been a process and it appears we still have weeks to go. I'll be sure post the finished product once we get there.
