These Days

We're enjoying our last few weeks of summer! We've done a good bit of traveling over July, but we're settled back in now and ready for the start of school.

I got this cute picture of Hannah and Abby a couple weeks ago. All three of the older girls are good with Abby (although Claire has to be watched like a hawk).  They love her to pieces, get so excited about holding her, ask where she is, try to make her smile and don't like it when she is crying.  But right now Hannah is the most "motherly."  I'm not sure if it's her age or her personality (too early to say), but she is SO sweet with Abby.  She asks to hold her often.  When Abby is playing in her exersaucer Hannah is the first to go sit on the floor and play with her.  She'll do it for long periods of time and it's especially helpful when I'm trying to get things done and Abby wants my attention -- Hannah will usually keep her happy without me even asking her to.  When Abby wakes up from a nap Hannah is usually the first to run to her crib (after asking permission).  She just generally pays very close attention to her and it's so sweet. I'm thankful for my happy little helper.

We headed down for a trip to Jackson a few weekends ago.  Jeff and Linda treated us to a yummy dinner at a restaurant on Lake Jackson when we got there. And then we all enjoyed watching the Opening Games of the Olympics together.

I got this picture of Pawpaw reading to E and H on Saturday morning.  Sweet!

We went to Fresh Air BBQ for lunch on Saturday, which Bert believes to be the best BBQ on the planet.  I'm not sure if it's the best ever because I wouldn't call myself a BBQ connoisseur but it is really good. After lunch we headed over to a park and let the kids get some energy out before naps.

Grandmama and Pawpaw with the girls!

We had a fun visit and really enjoyed our time with Grandmama and Pawpaw!  When we were leaving our tenderhearted Hannah cried and cried.  She just kept saying how much she was going to miss them.  They love their grandbabies so much and our girls feel it.

Abby turned 5 months old this month.  And I think she's about as cute as they get.  She's rolling all over the place now.  I don't bother putting her on a blanket because she'll roll off of it in 2.5 seconds. She sleeps on her stomach in her crib, in her room (that she shares with Emily), in her sleepsack from about 9pm to 7am...give or take a little.  She naps 3 times a day.

We're going to start solids soon, but haven't yet.  She nurses 5 times a day. It is easy peasy to get this girl to smile right now.  You just look at her and talk to her and she is delighted.  We get to see lots of smiles because this girl gets lots of attention.

She really likes bath time as you can see from the picture below.  I remember Claire used to scream and cry when we would take her out of the bath (because she liked it so much).   Abby doesn't do that....she doesn't cry when we take her out, but she is as happy as a lark while she is in there. Perhaps that is an indication that she is a smidge more laid back than our third little angel.  We'll see!:)

In the last couple days (she's five and a half months old now) she has started getting on all fours and rocking.  Our other three all did this just before they started crawling, but it wasn't until they were about 9 months.  It will be interesting to see how long it takes her to take off.  I for one am definitely not ready for her to become mobile quite yet, but I don't think she cares.  :)

We had a fun tea party play date with some friends from church.  The kids all dressed up and Melissa let them drink tea out of her grandmother's china and had dainty desserts to eat.  It was adorable!

After the tea party they gave us a concert, which we enjoyed!  Bella is one of Emily's very best friends....they have so much fun together.  I love Claire's pink wig and Hannah's guitar playing skills!

Last weekend I got to get together with my Clemson friends to celebrate Sara's upcoming wedding in two months and Angela's baby due in a month.  We had a joint shower for them at Kristin's house and then went out to dinner at Southern Culture.  I get to seem them all once a year at our annual girls weekend, but it was so fun to all get together mid year.

Sandy brought her 3 month old, Sara Kate, who we all loved meeting!

Jennifer (far left in the picture below) just had a baby 2 weeks before our get-together.  We were SO excited to see her and also SO impressed.  I'm hardly organized enough/together enough to run get something from the store at that point postpartum.

Maybe one day we'll be able to get Abby, Sara Kate, Anna James, and Annslea together.  They are all four less than 6 months apart and would have big fun I'm sure.

We took a quick overnight trip to visit my aunt and uncle at their lake house on Lake Hartwell.  Uncle Bud took us on a pontoon ride after dinner and it was sooooo relaxing and beautiful!

This was Abby's 1st boat ride and she enjoyed herself.  She ended up taking a nap on Mimi for most of it.

Hannah and Claire liked helping Uncle Bud drive the boat.

In other big news we have moved Abby out of the pack-n-play in our room and into her crib in Emily's room.  So now Emily and Abby are sharing a room and Hannah and Claire are sharing a room.  Emily and Abby go to sleep within minutes of laying down and sleep all night. It would be appropriate to refer to Hannah and Claire's room as the "rowdy room."  Hannah is soooo much better with bedtime these days.  She only gets up a couple times when we put her down, if at all, and almost never gets up in the middle of the night, although it does still take her awhile to fall asleep.  Claire, on the other hand, is enjoying her new found freedom.  She gets up about 800 times at night and sometimes gets up in the middle of the night and has trouble going back to sleep (although to be fair she hasn't done that the last two nights). It's special.  It's only been about a week since we moved the rooms around so we're hoping the "rowdy room" (Claire specifically) settles down a little in time. :)

It's been such a great summer!!  We're thankful for these days!
