Christmas in Toccoa

After church we hopped in the car and drove to Toccoa to celebrate with the Roberts side.  When we got there mom had all the presents set out in piles and ready so that we could open gifts before Ress Bess had to go down for a nap.

All 6 cousins if you can find them behind the gifts.  This is the only cousins picture we got all day, so this will have to do.:)

Watts Family photo!

My Aunt Ann (mom's sister) and her family came and we loved getting to spend the day with them.  Ann and Bud have two daughters, Angela and Jackie.  Jackie and her husband, Andrew, had a baby about a month ago.  Presley was a month and a day old on Christmas day.  We loved getting to meet her and hold her.  What a precious little gift she is!

The adults played a fun game where different items were wrapped up in the ball of saran wrap.  It was SO fun! The game had us laughing hard.

Mimi saved a big box for the kids to have a puppet show.  The kids were decorating the box for the show that was going to be the next day.

Claire was very quiet for a little bit and I went to look for her and found her right behind the couch where we were all sitting just coloring away.  Thankfully the markers were washable and her Daddy got her all cleaned up.

The next morning we had a puppet show with Mimi leading the team.  The kids for sure had fun with it and we had fun watching it!

5 of the 6 grandbabies with their puppets.  Hannah was fussing as we were taking this picture saying that Jacob was smushing her.  Ha!!

We forgot to get a cousin picture on Christmas day, so we did it on the day after, but unfortunately Katherine and Brett weren't there.  Angela lives in MD and Jackie lives in Charleston, so we don't get to see them often.  It was a fun 2 days!

Abby and Presley are almost 9 months apart.  We kept a close eye on Abs to make sure she didn't "attack" sweet Presley.

Emily loved getting to hold her youngest cousin.  She actually got to hold Presley for a long time and was as happy as a lark.

Aunt Ann curled Emily's hair and Em wanted a picture in front of the tree with her cute style.  Also notice the new walkie talkie that Uncle Stan gave Em and Hannah.  They're having lots of fun with those things, which make a surprising amount of noise!

This sweet thing had a great first Christmas!

We're thankful for family and friends and we're especially thankful for Jesus on this day and every day!

Christmas Morning

We had to wake Emily, Hannah, and Claire up on Christmas morning at 7:00 so that we could get everything opened, everyone ready, and have everything packed and ready to go to Toccoa right after church.

It was a busy but wonderful morning.  I have some sweet videos that I'll keep forever, but here are a few pictures of some of the girls' favorite gifts.

They were so excited about their new trampoline.  It's a smaller one, but perfect for our size yard and our size kids.

Claire was slightly nervous and didn't stand up while the big girls were jumping....she stayed on her knees.  She's since gotten over her uneasiness and is jumping right along with them....no surprise there.

Hannah is a big fan of her new (big) Minnie.  Now she has a little Minnie and a big Minnie and she sleeps with both of them and carries them around everywhere.

Strawberry Shortcake is Claire's favorite show and has been for awhile.  She also got a Strawberry Shortcake costume from one of Bert's aunts and it has been a big hit too.

Emily got an American Girl doll and named her Virginia (that's her friend Kayley's middle name and she likes it). It is precious to see how much she loves taking care of her little doll.  She asked to take her outside and show her "the dark and the rain" and she even pointed out to her what different animals sound like.  She gets her ready for bed each night and dressed in the morning.  We're still having to help her get some of the clothes on, so it's kind of like we just got a 5th child, but Emily's so excited we can't complain.:)

Abby had a great Christmas morning too!  She got some fun things, but especially loved playing on this box from one of Claire's gifts.

We really enjoyed getting to worship with our church family on Christmas day.  It was a meaningful service and helped to keep the focus where it needs to be.

We got there a little early so that Bert could finish up a few things before the service started.  I got this picture of the girls while we were waiting.

Merry Christmas from Team Watts!

Christmas in Jackson

We packed up and headed to Jackson to celebrate Christmas with the Watts side of the family on Thursday afternoon.  We had to stop halfway so that I could nurse Abby and Bert got out with the big girls so that they could stretch their legs.  While I was nursing the picture below was my view.  The sun was setting, Emily and Hannah were chasing each other all over this big grassy hill and Claire was hanging close to Bert.  Our car antenna is in the middle of this picture and it's not really clear, so it won't win any awards, but I couldn't begin to tell you how much I loved watching the four of them up on that hill together while I had our baby in my arms.  I was so thankful I thought my heart might burst.

We all looooved getting to see Bert's sister, Carrie.  We hadn't seen her since last Christmas and once a year just isn't enough.

Abby had gotten an ornament off of Grandmama's tree and was proud of herself!

Grandmama had a good bit of cooking to do on Friday for our big get together that evening.  She spent time with Emily, Hannah and Claire letting them help her in the kitchen.  She let them take turns so that she could focus on each one and would tell them what they were doing and why.  They loved helping her!

Em was helping spread peppermint on the Oreo balls.  Yummm!

Bert and his 3 siblings live in 4 different states so when they're all together a picture is definitely in order.  We live in SC, Alison and her fam in NC, Michael's in GA and Carrie's in CA.

Grandmama and Pawpaw were happy to have all their kids together.

Grandmama puts up a really fun Christmas village on her carport every year  The kids LOVE it.  I caught a picture of Claire and Millie checking it out.

Aunt Alison and Abby having some snuggle time.

Abby got to meet her Great Grandmother, Mamaw, for the first time this Christmas. Mamaw had seen lots of pictures, but was excited to get to see her in person.

The cousins had fun playing together!

We did something different this year and let all the cousins draw a name and buy a gift for that cousin.  Rosemary drew Hannah's name and bought her this Elena of Avalor dress with her own money.  She was so excited about giving this gift to Hannah (she even bought her own wrapping paper) and Hannah was SO excited about receiving it!

Carrie made this quilt for Abby Doodle and it is beautiful.  She's done this for all her other nieces and nephews and it's so special.  Carrie is super talented!

Emily and Rosemary got the same book for Christmas and were reading it together while Bert and I were packing up the car to head back to Greenville. Sweet cousins!

We had a really fun visit!  We're thankful for our family who we love and who loves us well!

Abby - 9 months

Abby turned 9 months about two weeks ago.  She had her 9 month well-check and it went very well!  She was 28 inches long and in the 64th percentile for her length (was in the 22nd percentile at 6 months).  She was 17 lbs and 11 oz and in the 29th percentile for her weight (was in the 53rd percentile at 6 months).  She did not appreciate being checked out and our doctor made the comment that she's got a little temper. :)

I caught her mid wave!

Abby's favorite's at 9 months:
Food:  Puffs, any baby food
Activities:  Crawling, Pulling up, Standing up, Walking with her walker
Sounds she can say:  Da-Da

Sleeping Habits at 9 months:
-Takes 2 naps a day - about 1 1/2 hours each
- Screams for a couple minutes each time we lay her down but then goes on to sleep by herself.
-She doesn't sleep with anything in her crib but I'm going to give her a lovie any day now
-She doesn't wear a sleepsack or swaddle
-She sleeps with a sound machine on at night and two sound machines going in her room during her naps to drown our her loud sisters.
-She sleeps about 11 hours each night (about 8 pm to 7am).  She almost never wakes up in the middle of the night.

Things I treasure about my 9 month old:
- She's saying  "Da-Da" and it's precious!
-She's crawling all over the house.  She'll follow me from room to room.  Or just go to whatever room she wants to go to.  She especially loves crawling into the bathrooms, which I think she likes because she knows I don't want her in there.
-She's now taking some steps.  Bert saw her do 7 steps unassisted a couple days ago and I saw her do 6 steps yesterday.  She'll be walking soon, but crawling is still her transportation of choice.
-She constantly watches her big sisters.
-She has the most precious laugh and it is music to my ears.
-She will sometimes wave when you tell her bye bye, but not usually.
-She's started eating some of the soft foods we eat at each meal....especially vegetables, but they're still not her favorite and she has to be encouraged.
-If I try to put her down and she doesn't want me to she will wrap her arms and legs around me and hold on like a little monkey.  If she does want to get down she will flail back or try to jump out of my arms with no worry of how far away the ground is.
-She's pulling up on everything but also can stand up from a sitting position without holding on to anything.  She'll get in a little squat and then just stand right up....she does this many times every day.
-She's putting everything she can get her hands on in her mouth.  I've said it before and I'll say it again: it is not my favorite habit/phase.  I've found it's especially tricky when you have 3 older sisters.
-She still doesn't have a tooth yet, but our pediatrician mentioned that her top gums looked swollen, so we'll see if they pop through soon.
-She has very sensitive skin, especially around her mouth (on her cheeks and chin).  Once every couple weeks she will go through a couple day period when it gets soooooo red and chapped from all her drool.  If I keep Vaseline on it for a few days it will clear on up.
-She's still having trouble with a plugged tear duct in her right eye.  It stays slightly watery and has a small amount of gunk in the corner especially after naps or crying.  My pediatrician said to give it about another month and then she will refer us.  I'm really praying it will clear on up on it's own because I don't want them to have to probe it.
-She's doing much better in the nursery at church.  She usually fusses as I walk out of the room but then I think she calms down for them quickly.
-When people come up to talk to us while I am holding Abby on my hip (which I feel like is 90 percent of the time) she will get so shy.  It's funny and sweet !  She'll tuck her little head against my chest and hold it there while watching whoever is talking to us.  Ha!
-If I'm in the middle of something when Abby wakes up from her nap I'll sometimes send Hannah or Emily in to "tell her Mommy's coming" and talk to her.  This used to delight Claire when I would send one of her sisters in first, but it seems to make Abby even more mad.  She usually starts screaming louder as if to tell us they are absolutely not who she wants to see.
-She is reeeeeeally good at pulling her shoes off.  She basically won't keep them on which is not great since it's recently gotten so cold.  She thankfully doesn't usually pull her socks off, but I need to find some shoes that she can't pull off pronto.
- Shes gets told by someone about once a week that she looks like her Daddy.:)
-She hasn't been overly interested in/concerned with the Christmas tree or presents under it.  Thankfully!!
-She'll happily play in the playroom for good chunks of time.  She especially likes standing at their toy kitchen and pulling up on her little music table.
-She had her first cold right after Thanksgiving.  It was hard to see her so congested, but I was thankful she made it to almost 9 months without getting sick.

After we moved from the infant tub we let her take a bath with her sisters for a time or two but that went terrible because she was so wiggly it was making me a nervous wreck.  I had this tub with the older girls, but I had to throw it away after Claire because it got a hole in it.  We quickly decided we needed to buy another though and Abby was pleased with the purchase.

She likes her little duck and loves bath time!

She's walking alllll over the house with this thing.  Unfortunately she often runs into things (walls and furniture) and it makes her furious because she doesn't yet have the skills to back up or turn her toy. She'll yell out in frustration. Poor little nugget.

Yesterday, Hannah was just looking at her and said "she's soooo cute." All three of her sisters love playing with her. Abby is a little bundle of love and all 5 of the other members of Team Watts think she is a precious gift! Happy 9 Months, Abby!

These Days

Hannah's scared of the dentist.  This was her third visit, and I was hoping it would be "the charm," but that wasn't the case.  She was doing pretty well staying calm until it was time to get in the chair and then she panicked.  She started crying (loud) and the hygienist went to get the dentist.  Dr. Mary (our pediatric dentist) came and pulled Hannah in her lap and talked to her in the most calm, patient voice.  They talked about each item on the tray and if it was "scary" or "safe."  They put everything in the safe pile and Hannah felt so much better.  She was talking to Hannah for at least 15 or 20 minutes and you would have thought she didn't have anything else in the world that she needed to be doing.  After their talk Hannah got in the chair and let Dr. Mary check her teeth and then let the hygienist clean them.  She was still a little nervous, but 1000 percent better than she was.  I SO appreciated Dr. Mary taking the time to calm my baby down and talk her through the visit.

I usually have my quiet time (spend time reading the Bible, praying, journaling and/or doing a Bible study) during Abby's first nap while Claire watches "Daniel Tiger." On this particular day Claire wasn't in the mood for Daniel and wanted to be right beside me.  Sometimes I really love my peace and quiet, but I also know I'll miss these "interruptions".

Our church had a movie and craft night for the kids a couple week ago so that the parents could go out on date nights, Christmas shop, etc.  Our girls LOVED it and I so appreciate all the hard work that the children's ministry team put into the event! We loved this cute picture of Hannah that one of the volunteers took there...

The morning after we had put lights on the tree Bert took this picture of Claire just staring at it in awe.

My dad's birthday is December 16th, which just so happens to fall at a busy time of year, but THIS year we got to have dinner with him on his actual day, which we loved!!  Mom and dad drove over to Greenville and we all went to Red Lobster to celebrate Papa Stan.  We're so thankful for you, Daddy!!

Our friends Keri and Patrick and their family came for a visit last weekend.  They kept the kids on Saturday night while we went to a Christmas party and then we kept their youngest, Kathryn Grace, on Sunday afternoon while they went to a wedding.  We loved getting to catch up with them in between events, having them at church with us on Sunday morning, and taking them to our favorite meat and three restaurant Sunday afternoon.

6 of the 7 kids

The whole crew!

Kayley's in 2nd grade, Em's in 1st, Jackson's in Kindergarten, Hannah's in K4, Claire's almost 3, Kathryn Grace will be 2 in May, and Abby will be 1 in March.

The Harmon's were 3 for 3 on smiles, and we were 2 for 4.  Hannah was upset in the picture below because she wanted to hold Abs.

I let Hannah hold her, which pleased her, but everyone else had had enough picture taking.

Katherine, Jacob and Ressie came over on Monday and had an all-day play date with us!  It was busy and fun!!

I made sugar cookies with E, H and C this week.  I couldn't find any Christmas cookie cutters so we used Valentine's cookie cutters, but they couldn't have cared less.  They were just happy to be making cookies.

Claire manages to get messy with almost every single thing she eats.

Bert and I celebrated 9 years on the 15th!  We went on our anniversary trip in October, but had fun on a date night to the Peddler Steakhouse on the actual day!  I'm so thankful for our marriage! Being married to this man just keeps getting better.

December has been great so far!  We only have 3 days till Christmas now, and 2017 is going to be here before we can blink!

Hannah's 4-K Christmas Performance

Hannah had her 4-K Christmas Performance and Bert, Abby, Claire and I were there to cheer her on.  Emily was disappointed she didn't get to come, but she was in school.

They sang 5 or 6 songs for us and all of them were precious.  She has a sweet class this year!

The little boy in this picture's name is Sam.  Sam's brother was in Emily's K3 and K4 class.  It's always fun to catch up with his mom, Abby!  Glad they are in the same class this year!

Also, note her bunched up tights at her ankles.  I guess she had gone to the bathroom at school and didn't get them pulled all the way up.:)

Hannah wanted to show Claire all around her classroom.  Before she left for school that morning she was very worried about if they would have enough snacks for Claire.  She really wanted Claire to be able to have snacks at the party with her.  I love that they love each other.

Bert and Claire were helping Hannah with a "Banana Snowman" they were making.

Hannah brought home several ornaments that she had made at school, but these two were my favorites.  When she got home she proudly showed them to me (she was so excited to give them to us, it was precious) and then she wanted to take a picture of each ornament by itself.

Abby had a handful of Hannah's hair, but Hannah was still smiling.  She was a happy girl!

We are so proud of you, Hannah Beth, and had so much fun celebrating with you!!
