These Days

One day in early January, Hannah had her friend Penny over and Emily went over to Samantha's (Penny's sister) house.  The girls thought it was fun to do a trade!:)

I'm not even sure what they were doing but I thought they looked cute!

Building a tall tower!

Em was proud of her super tall tower!

A high five after a game of Connect 4! The girls LOVE it when we play games with them!

Emily got to stay up through half time of the National Championship game.  This was her reaction when I told her Clemson had won!  She was soooo excited!  Bert says she's a bigger Clemson fan than me and he's probably right....she LOVES her Tigers!:)

This was the picture from 2  years ago when she found out Clemson had won that National Championship!  We thought the similarities were so funny!  Hannah and Claire are on the same side of her, eating their yogurt, both looking at her like she's crazy for screaming.  Love our girls!

We had a Paris Pajama skate night and had fun!  Emily was so sweet to skate with Claire a lot of the time.  She's getting to be a really good skater!

Abby and Daddy were partners for most of the night, although she was happy to skate by herself!

Hannah got these skates for Christmas and did a great job!  She mostly preferred skating on the side, but I definitely saw improvement!

Emily with 3 friends in her class - Bryce, Layla, and Logan.

Claire got to go to a painting birthday party for her friend Charlotte!  She was proud of her birdhouse!

I pulled Hannah's first tooth, which just so happened to be the first tooth I've ever pulled!  She had a baby tooth coming in behind it and we were determined to get it out of there without having to go to the dentist.  I had to pull it forward some to get it out of there, so now she says she doesn't want me to pull any more teeth....she said she likes how Daddy does it better.  Ha!

Claire is doing such a great job learning to ride her bike with her training wheels.  She's super cautions, but she's gaining speed and can get going again by herself without our help (well, usually anyway).

Abby has decided she wants to learn to drive the Jeep and she's a bit dangerous at the moment.  She likes to yank the steering wheel back and forth and has a need for speed.  We have to stay right beside her and it's a tiring job to chase her around in the car, but she's got to learn....she'll be good in no time!

When we ask Abby to do something like "Abby, go put your coat on" she responds with "But I don't how know put my coat on!!!!"  She says "I don't how know ___" often and usually in a frustrated tone of voice and it makes me smile every time.

Hannah's teacher sent me this picture of Hannah and her good friend Violet dressing alike one day. Violet is Hannah's best friend in her class this year and most everyday Hannah comes home talking about something she did with Violet that day.  Sweet girls!

Hudson, Hannah and Emily getting ready for crazy hat night at MC Kids! Emily enjoyed making the hats for her and her sister.

Bert and the girls have started playing soccer some in our cul-de-sac.  I liked this action shot of them!  Have I mentioned that I love our cul-de-sac?!  It's probably my favorite thing about where we live!

I caught the girls playing Trouble together one morning.

One Monday in January Emily's piano teacher had to cancel her lesson so I decided to take the girls to the church playground for some fresh air!  They had fun playing and I walked laps around the playground.  Win for everyone!

We try to take a family walk on the golf course a couple times a week (if the weather cooperates).  I would take one every night if we could, but I take what I can get.  Emily and Hannah usually ride their bikes and Bert pulls Abby and Claire in the wagon.  They were stopping to look at an owl in the picture below so I caught a picture of my people doing one of my favorite things!

These days are busy and fun and tiring and I'm thankful for them!

Pastor's/Wives Retreat

Bert and I had a Pastor's and wives retreat for our local association of churches in late January.  This is our 3rd year going and we enjoy it every year.  It's always encouraging and refreshing to build relationships with other pastors/wives in our area.

Grandmama and Pawpaw came up to keep the kiddos so that we could go.  The girls were very excited about them coming and we appreciated it very much!

They took them to Pebble Creek pizza on Saturday for lunch!  The girls were excited because we go there often but usually just for pick up.

Emily got another sewing lesson!

And they finished off their stay with a trip to the bowling ally.  The girls had so much fun and are getting better at bowling slowly but surely.  We should take them more often...our bad!

We were only gone on our trip for about 24 hours but it felt like longer!  Glad we got to get away, and thankful for grandparents who love keeping their grand-kiddos!

A New Bed for Abby

We decided one weekend in January that it was finally time to move Abby out of her crib and into a toddler bed. I wasn't sad when we threw away the last diaper in the house, but I cried real tears as Bert was taking down this crib.  We've had this crib in our house for almost 9 years and I've put babies in and taken babies out of it about a million times.  I have precious memories of checking on them while they were curled up sleeping in it and singing and praying over them before I laid them down.

I can't believe they're all so big!  Time's flying!!

I moved all three of the others out of the crib at around 2 years old because they had a younger sibling needing the crib, but that wasn't the case for Abby, so she stayed in it a little longer (almost 3).  I'd say she was ready for her big girl bed though and hasn't looked back once!

Claire was still in the toddler bed in Emily and Hannah's room so we did the big switch and moved Claire into Abby's room and put her in a twin bed and set up the toddler bed for Abby!

I got matching bedding for Abby and Claire from Target, which I thought turned out super cute!

These two girls got new bedding for Christmas and love sharing a room.  Hannah was sick last week and she slept in our bedroom while she was quarantined and Emily missed her SO much!  They were both so excited when she got to start sleeping in their room again.

Room sharing is a must in our house because we have 4 kids in a 3-bedroom house, but even if it wasn't I would want them to.  I loved sharing a room with my sister growing up and I'm excited that they get to do it too!

Some Updated House Pics

Our realtor sent me an email about something else and also asked if I could send her some house pictures after we had updated some things and painted.  I sent these and thought I'd include them here too.

Eddie and Billy did a great job painting our cabinets....we're so glad we did that before we moved in!

We still want to get a mantel for our fireplace, take down the mirror wall in the dining room, and many other things, but we feel good about where we are and will get to everything slowly but surely!

Claire - 5 years

Our Claire turned 5 years old on January 8th!  Here are a few of my favorite things about our 5-year-old:

-Claire is so much fun to be around and is full of spunk!

-Claire loves school and is disappointed on the days she doesn't get to go (she goes Wed-Fri).

-She has THE hardest time going to sleep at night.  She's just wide awake and gets up many many times for different reason. Sometimes (okay, most nights) we'll tell her to "stay in bed," to which she'll reply, "But I don't know how!" ... Thankfully, she's also our latest sleeper.

-I took her in for a speech evaluation because she still has 6 or 7 sounds that she's not saying correctly.  Even a stranger can understand what she is saying, but it's not perfectly clear.  The speech therapist said that she is still on track for her age and doesn't need speech therapy right now.

-She likes to watch shows and movies, but I definitely wouldn't call her a movie lover.

-She's shy in public and isn't usually chatty with people at church or school, and certainly not with new people.

-She doesn't like Capri Suns, which is unusual for a kid her age.  She prefers to drink water out of her cup.

-She likes marshmallows, peanut butter sandwiches (sometimes she adds jelly, sometimes it's just PB), banana's.....  She's really not picky at all and eats most anything I give her.

-Claire tells us exactly what she is thinking and I love it!

-She LOVES her dance class and gets so excited about going every Tuesday night. She's in a class with her friend Charlotte.

-She sleeps in a room with her sister Abby (as of about a month ago) and that transition has been just fine.  Abby usually goes to sleep quickly and then Claire feels free to get up and down.  Ha!

-She doesn't love taking baths because she doesn't love water in her face.  She was very cautious about getting her face wet at the pool last summer, but I'm hoping she'll be a little more comfortable with it this summer.

-She's a thinker. She's very logical and will sometimes figure things out before her big sisters.

-She gets frustrated if she can't do something easily...like buckle her 5-point harness seat belt.  She's actually done it by herself a few times recently, but I had been working on trying to get her to do it for a long time and she absolutely refused.

-She's really good at driving the Power Wheels jeep, riding her bike, and skating.  She loves playing outside with her sisters.

-Nicknames - Claire Bear, Clairey, CK

-Claire loves to help!  I will often say (aloud) something that I need and before I can get up to go get it Claire has run to get it for me.  If she hears my phone ring she runs to get it and bring it to me, and she actually enjoys putting her clothes away.  She also loves to help make anything in the kitchen and help put the groceries away.

-Claire and Abby play so well together and Abby really misses her when Claire is at school.

-She especially loves to play with their play kitchen, magnetic blocks and legos.

Claire's 5th Birthday

Claire's birthday fell on a Tuesday this year.  We celebrated her all day by singing and playing, a trip to the library, and ended the night with her choice of a birthday dinner.  She also enjoyed using the birthday plate during the week of her birthday!

I was there...you can see me in the background taking the picture!:)

After dinner and dessert it was time to open presents, which is always the favorite part!

Claire was especially excited about her new tablet (a Leap Pad). We try to be SO careful about the kids screen time that I was hesitant to get this for her, but it's been fine.  She often goes days without touching it, and then will play it for a short time.

We had fun celebrating you, Claire!  Happy 5th birthday from your biggest cheerleaders!

Claire's 5th Birthday Party

We celebrated Claire's 5th birthday with a princess party this year and it was so much fun!!  We usually do something a little "bigger" for their 5th birthday, so for Claire we had a "real" princess (Belle) come to our house!

We took a few pictures before the festivities started!

Isn't she PRECIOUS?!?!

My friend, Denise, made Claire's cupcakes for me and she did an amazing job!

We opened presents while we were waiting on Belle to arrive.

They were waiting (excitedly) on the porch as Belle walked up our sidewalk!

Belle played some games with them, played with bubbles, danced with Claire, read a book to them, and took pictures with them!  It was precious to see all the girls have so much fun!

They were playing a game here...

We were glad these sweet friends could celebrate with us!

After Belle left it was time for food and singing to our birthday girl!

Stanley and Alisha came up for the party and to spend the night with us, which was so sweet of them!

I loved this picture of Alisha and Claire!

Hannah looooves Callie and stayed by her side most of the day!

All these people (Katherine was there too, but was taking a short nap) had to travel to be there, but we were so happy to have them there to celebrate our Claire!!

Happy Birthday, Claire Bear, you are loved!
