Church Musicals

We had our spring musicals at church on May 21st.  The Play and Praise Choir (3-year-olds - Kindergarten) sang 4 songs and then the big kids choir (1st -5th graders) did their play.  Both groups worked so hard this spring to learn their songs and lines and they did such an amazing job!

The kids start going to Play and Praise when they turn 3, so this was Claire's first performance since she started back in January.  And it will be memorable!  Claire has warmed up A LOT from when she first started back in January.  At first she refused to even stand when the other kids were singing, much less sing.  When I asked her why she wouldn't sing or stand she said it was because she didn't know the songs.  Along the way she started standing with us and would sing and do the hand movements (sometimes).  I think a lot of it was nervousness in that new setting with some bigger kids, but I have no doubt that Claire has a stubborn streak that we will probably be seeing more of as she grows:).

I took this picture of the Play and Praise group just before they headed out to perform their songs.  Claire's scowl makes me chuckle. One little boy is behind me because he wasn't in the picture taking mood and another little boy got sick the day of the performance and wasn't able to make it.

Claire and Gabe kept holding hands that night as they were getting ready to sing.  They love playing together but I usually don't see them holding hands like this.  That night I caught them doing this several different times unprompted.  I thought it was the sweetest.  Gabe was probably trying to keep Claire calm.:)

Waiting their turn to sing...

Bert took this picture as soon as they got on stage and you can see Claire was all smiles.

But her expression quickly changed to this and she stayed in this position and with this facial expression for most of the first song.  She had the whole church chuckling.

The video of this performance is one that we'll pull back out again and again, I'm sure.  They were all precious and hilarious.

Hannah did an awesome job!  She knew her words and her motions and had fun while she was singing!

I was the assistant Play and Praise director again this year and we had such a fun year working with these kids.  They really were the sweetest!!

The Kids Praise Choir spent hours and hours learning lines and practicing songs and solos.  They did an AMAZING job!!

Bert and I had a very small scene during  this play.  We each had 3 lines.  Bert has been in several of the kids performances, playing different parts, but this was my debut.  Even though this type thing isn't usually in my comfort zone, it was fun and not too stressful!

Mimi got a picture of Emily laughing at our scene...Bert was hamming it up.

Emily had a solo part that she did a great job on.  She has a beautiful voice!  She also had 7 or 8 small lines and did great with those too.  Proud of her hard work!

The whole group!

We're thankful for the ladies who worked so hard with Emily's choir and for our church that supports our kids activities like this so well, and we love that it helps our kids grow to know God and have such great friends!!
