First Snow of 2017

We got our first snow of the year on January 7th.  We were expected to get about 5" and that's exactly what we got. It started snowing just as the kids were going to bed and Emily and Hannah could hardly contain their excitement.  Bert opened up their blinds and curtains so that they could sit on their beds and watch it fall. My mom got this really cool picture of it falling in our front yard.

The next morning we got some pretty shots of the beautiful snow.  Snow is so peaceful!

We had planned to do a small family party for Claire's birthday this year.  Bert's parents were coming up the next weekend to help him with the kids while I was out of town, so they weren't able to come up for the dinner. The plan was for mom and dad to come up on Saturday and spend the day going to E and H's basketball game and then the afternoon celebrating C.  When the snow was headed our way we made a plan B and they came on over on Friday evening.

We enjoyed having them here to play in the snow and celebrate our little Claire Bear.  When you're dealing with snow and getting everyone bundled and unbundled, etc., 4-on-4 is a much better ratio than 4-on-2.

This was the Saturday morning team that went sledding.  Mom stayed back with Abby so that she could nap.  I enjoyed getting to go with them.

If you click on the pictures you can make them bigger.  Emily had fun sledding with Anna Grace, one of our neighbors.

Claire did not enjoyed getting bundled up to go out in the snow each time.  By the time we had her ready she was usually mad, but calmed back down once she got out there to play, which she loved!

This sweet thing enjoyed her first snow!

We made snow ice cream and enjoyed hot chocolate several times though out the weekend!

Claire helped Mimi snap beans, which were delicious!

This was the first time Mimi and Papa have been at our house on a snow day and it was fun to have them there!

Bert and I love this sled full of girls!

Hannah wanted to take Abby on a sled ride.  Abs enjoyed herself!

The girls came in to get warmed up and watch a movie together after playing outside on snow day number two. Claire fell asleep in this exact position just a couple minutes after I took this picture.

I love the part of the country where we live!  I love that we get snow days that are SO MUCH FUN, but that we don't have snow all the time (I think that's what makes the snow days so much fun)! Thankful!
